Austin City Limits Music Festival occupies Zilker Metropolitan Park, a 351-acre public park in the heart of Austin, Texas, bordered by Barton Springs Road to the north and Lady Bird Lake to the south. ACL adopted a two-weekend format in 2013, with each edition running Friday through Sunday across two consecutive October weekends. Both weekends feature the same lineup, giving attendees the flexibility to choose based on schedule, travel logistics, or resale pricing. The festival typically programs eight stages spread across the park's grassy fields, with the American Express Stage serving as the headliner platform and the Honda Stage, Tito's Handmade Vodka Stage, Miller Lite Stage, and several others hosting acts throughout the day.
General admission three-day weekend passes for ACL 2026 are expected to price between $295 and $350 during the initial on-sale period. GA+ passes, a mid-tier option that includes a dedicated lounge with shade, food and drink for purchase, and upgraded restrooms, typically run $600 to $750. VIP three-day passes, which provide elevated viewing decks at the main stages, a VIP lounge with complimentary drinks, and air-conditioned restrooms, list around $1,200 to $1,400. Platinum passes, the top tier, include front-of-stage viewing, all-inclusive food and drink, dedicated concierge service, and golf cart transportation within the festival grounds, and these range from $3,800 to $4,500. Single-day passes are usually released after the daily lineup breakdown is announced.
Zilker Park is flat and covered in grass, making it one of the more comfortable festival venues in terms of walking and standing. The park's central location means the Austin skyline is visible from most vantage points, and the tree-lined areas along the south side of the grounds offer some natural shade. The walk from one end of the festival to the other takes roughly 15 minutes at a relaxed pace. Austin in early October still carries summer warmth, with daytime highs typically in the mid-80s to low 90s, though mornings and evenings can cool into the 60s. Afternoon rain showers are possible, and the park's grass fields can turn muddy quickly when it does rain.
Parking near Zilker Park during ACL weekends is extremely limited and heavily restricted. Most streets surrounding the park implement residential permit parking during festival days, and the small number of available lots fill up before gates open. The festival strongly discourages driving and instead operates a free shuttle service from Republic Square in downtown Austin to the festival entrance. The shuttle runs continuously from late morning through post-festival hours and is the most efficient way to reach the gates without dealing with traffic or parking headaches.
Austin's MetroRail commuter train runs from the northern suburbs through downtown and drops off at the Downtown Austin station, from which you can walk or catch the shuttle to Zilker. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft have designated drop-off and pickup zones on Barton Springs Road and adjacent streets, but surge pricing during arrival and departure peaks is significant. Biking is a legitimate option for locals and those staying downtown; the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail along Lady Bird Lake connects to paths that lead directly to the park. A bike valet service operates near the festival entrance during ACL weekends.
The American Express Stage faces a wide, open field that fills steadily throughout the day and becomes packed for headliners. For a good spot at a closing headliner, plan to arrive during the second-to-last act on that stage and gradually work forward. The Honda Stage, the second-largest, often hosts co-headliners and critically acclaimed acts that draw enthusiastic but slightly less dense crowds than the main stage. The Tito's Stage and Miller Lite Stage are mid-size and sit closer together on the eastern side of the park, making it easy to bounce between them when set times overlap. The smaller stages, including the BMI Stage near the south end, offer intimate environments where you can stand within 20 feet of performers without arriving early.
One of ACL's distinct advantages is that the two-weekend format gives you a second chance at any set you missed or want to experience again. If you attended Weekend 1 and fell in love with a particular artist, Weekend 2 tickets on the resale market can sometimes be found at or below face value, letting you relive the experience or correct a scheduling mistake from your first weekend.
Unlike remote festival settings, ACL sits inside one of the most vibrant cities in Texas. The South Congress (SoCo) strip is a short rideshare from Zilker and packed with restaurants, vintage shops, and bars. Sixth Street and Rainey Street are Austin's primary nightlife corridors and host official and unofficial ACL after-parties throughout both weekends. For a daytime recharge, Barton Springs Pool, a spring-fed swimming hole inside Zilker Park itself, offers 68-degree water year-round and is open on non-festival hours. Austin's food scene, from barbecue institutions like Franklin Barbecue to taco trucks and Tex-Mex staples, is a highlight that rivals the music itself.
Both weekends feature the same artist lineup and stage schedule. Weekend 1 tends to draw more buzz and media attention, while Weekend 2 is often perceived as slightly less crowded. Resale prices for Weekend 2 passes are sometimes lower, making it a good option for budget-conscious attendees.
The festival operates free shuttle buses from Republic Square in downtown Austin to the Zilker Park festival entrance. Shuttles run continuously from late morning through approximately one hour after the last headliner ends. Lines can be long during peak arrival and departure times, so building in a 20 to 30 minute buffer is recommended.
Parking at and near Zilker Park is extremely limited during ACL weekends. Most surrounding streets enforce residential permit parking, and the few available lots fill before gates open. The festival recommends using the free shuttle, public transit, rideshare, or biking instead of driving.
Austin in early October is still warm, with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s. Comfortable shoes that can handle grass and potential mud, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essentials. Bring a light jacket or hoodie for the evening when temperatures can drop into the 60s. A compact rain poncho is wise given the possibility of afternoon showers.
Outside food and drinks are not permitted. Empty reusable water bottles are allowed and can be filled at free water stations throughout the park. The festival has a wide variety of food vendors representing Austin's diverse culinary scene, including barbecue, tacos, Asian fusion, and vegan options.
